One of the trendy places to go on Granville Island where you can dine, lounge for drinks and dance with your Date or an intimate party of single friends. This is one of the places to be and be seen as this attracts a good crowd of people including singles. Tucked away in the back behind buildings and old retail stores, right by the waters the walk towards the restaurant is nice with a nice garden at the front. Sandbar Seafood restaurant has a great view of Yaletown, the marinas and the Burrard Inlet. Be sure to get a good table where you can get a good view especially in the evening with the lights reflecting off the waters creating a romantic ambience.

Here you will find West Coast fusion, seafood, and tapas. Japanese cuisine is served downstairs right when you come in thru the front doors. This large restaurant has three levels each with different dining rooms with a west coast décor. Head upstairs to the outdoor patio and enjoy the cool air on a hot day/evening with a few drinks. On the main level towards the end of the week (Thursday - Saturday) sit by the bar and enjoy the music. This area is transformed into a club like environment with some room for you and your Date to dance and express yourself. Or hang upstairs and enjoy the warmth of the fireplace on a chilly evening with a hot drink.

We have gone there a number of occasions for drinks/social dancing and special events like the one hosted by Hopscotch where they held their Scotch and Chocolate pairing evening. To much of our surprise a four course dinner was served as this was not advertised. This young and creative chef has created a new menu for this special event to pair with the chocolates and scotches. Unfortunately these dishes are not part of the regular menu.

Sandbar Seafood Restaurant is one of the places to dine a date. Your Date will enjoy the ambiance and the view along with intimate setting and dim lighting for a romantic affair for two. Come and enjoy their dinner theatre package (a special three course dinner menu served just in time to catch the show at one of Granville Island’s own theatres). Afterwards if the evening is clear and dry go for a moonlight walk by the waters and finish the evening on a love-filled note.


Things to note:
- Parking by the market is available if you can't find anything closer to the restaurant
- If this is your first time to Sandbar restaurant, you will notice that there is a lack of signage so bring a map or call Sandbar for directions ahead of time to avoid frustrations.
- You will need to climb a couple flights of stairs just to get to the main dining floor where the host will greet you and the top level. I am not sure if there is an elevator you can take if walking up the stairs is a challenge.
- If you have problems with stairs, you may want to consider eating downstairs/main level for Japanese.
