If you and perhaps your sweetie happen to be around Beach Avenue walking along the seawall and find yourself wanting to sit while enjoying the great view of the marina, False Creek and Granville Island, then come out to Marmalade. Sit on the outdoor patio on a warm day and people watch or inside the restaurant by the window and enjoy the same great view. A small restaurant that fits about 50 people is perfect for a romantic dining or a small group of good friends for conversations. The funky retro ambience decorated with white chairs and glass tables. In the evening, the dim lighting adds to the intimate appeal. Just want to hangout for drinks? Sit at the bar designed to be inviting and while being entertained by the bartender. Or chill on the couch and chairs towards the back of the restaurant for a cozy get together.
Serving West Coast cuisine with British and Mediterranean influences, their dishes are presented with attention to detail. We were there for the Tourism Vancouver's Dine Out Vancouver presented by Visa
experience for the three course set meal. Of course a drink is an order! Started on the bitter-sweet side with a Lemon Drop martini, shaken to perfection although a little on the sweet side with the added simple syrup. For the first course, the Crab tower (crab cakes assembled over avocado and garnished with fresh mango) as the appetizer. Then Bison as the main entrée (served with grilled vegetables and side of rice) and finishing off the evening with their chocolate bread pudding (served warm with chocolate sauce and a scoop of ice cream dusted with icing sugar).
Marmalade is a good place for hanging out for a quick drink and some appetizers while enjoying the view. You can check out their daily specials for breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Things to note:
1. The restaurant can a challenge to find so ensure you bring the address and phone number with you. you can Google or Mapquest it for a visual.
2. Strongly recommend hanging out for drinks and appetizers rather than venturing out to the entrees as it may be a hit and miss based on personal experience and other reviews of this restaurant. But then again, it is my experience, perhaps yours will be different.
3. The servers are very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately my server was reluctant in providing any feedback or suggestions when I was inquiring about the menu offerings. Chances are he didn't want to feel responsible if the dishes I chose didn't work out.
