There are many ways to show interest and each way is a personal expression of who you are. One way of looking at it is, how would you greet a friend? In this case, how would you greet a stranger – especially an attractive stranger – without losing your composure?
Here are some factors to keep in mind:
1. Body language - when your body is open with uncrossed arms and legs, it communicates to your flirting target that you are approachable. Position your body facing directly towards your flirting target when talking to him/her.
2. Smile - show off those pearly whites! A smile is like a key that opens the door. It warms as it welcomes and acknowledges your flirting target’s presence.
3. Handshake and introduction - a firm handshake shows the other person that you are confident. Avoid gripping too hard and hurting the your flirting target. Limp handshake tells you that they are not interested or have very little confidence. While you are shaking hands, introduce yourself; and if you are in a group, introduce the group members as well – it’s basic etiquette.
4. Touch - as we feel the attraction of our flirting target, naturally, we may express this by touch – usually a pat or a slight touch. Some people may use this kind of tactic to get the flirting target’s attention.
5. Compliment - greeting and welcoming your flirting target with a smile is the perfect acknowledgement. If you have a positive compliment about your flirting target, give the gift of flattery.
6. Be the “Host” - if you are a guest in a social setting/event, take on the role of host by introducing your flirting target to everyone. Make her/him feel at home by offering a drink, some food or perhaps a tour around the area. This step can help you stand out from the crowd – your flirting target will positively remember you as somebody who took the time to take care of him/her.
If you are insincere, your flirting targets will notice it. So if you feel you can’t be genuine, then move towards someone with whom you can be yourself. This will honour you and others around you.
