Shalizar Restaurant and Bar, located in West Vancouver has just opened its’ doors early this year and all ready it has gained popularity among the Persian community thru the word of mouth. With the community as tight and close as this one, it is sure to get the word around with raving reviews. Shalizar Restaurant offers fine dining in a contemporary setting with Persian décor accents. It is a small to medium size restaurant that can be arranged to accommodate large groups perfect for the large Persian family dinners. I would recommend a reservation just in case if you plan to come out with a large group.
It just so happened the Wednesday evening I was there, two large families came in and all of the sudden the restaurant had to make quick table layout changes.
They offer a full service bar to cater to your cocktail desires. Unfortunately they have a limited wine (three reds and three whites) and beer selection. You will notice that their main entrée menu is selective as they only serve meal entrees like kebabs, lamb shank and the odd lasagna dish (guess for those who want Italian instead of Persian cuisine) in addition to their soups, salads, dolmeh (ground meat wrapped with grape leaves) and famous dips, yoghurt and eggplant served with hot pita bread for dipping. The quality of the meats is what makes this restaurant stand out from the rest as they serve the quality of a filet mignon. Come and out and try for yourself.
Started the evening with a glass of Sonora Ranch Pinot Noir red wine. Then for the main ordered a lamb shank served with a side of meat juice/sauce that you could drizzle your lamb with if you choose to do so. It was very moist and tasty as the meat fell off the bone. It came with side salad and a large pilaf of basmati rice mixed with lima beans, butter, and dill weed. It was a combination of flavors that made this dish unique.
To enhance your Persian experience, you can try their popular Doogh, a carbonated yogurt drink.
On Wednesdays and Sundays Shalizar provides nightly entertainment. A violinist comes in and plays while you savor your dining experience at Shalizar. This is a nice night out for you and a potential date as this setting can be romantic with candles lit and music playing in the background while enjoying the taste of the Middle East.
For a upscale dining experience of Persian food in West Vancouver without breaking the bank, be sure to check this place out for a great date night.
