Monk McQueens is one of the best places to take your date to or hang out with your friends for seafood and West Coast Cuisine. Enjoy their West Coast offerings for brunch, lunch or dinner. On a clear and sunny day consider sitting on their patio deck to enjoy the scenery and the nice breeze coming off the water. Neighborhood parking can be a challenge, so consider valet parking as this will save time finding a spot. Or consider taking the Aqua Bus
over with your sweetie adding a special experience to the evening.
For a casual affair, sit on the main level called the ‘Oyster Bar’ with the option of sitting on the larger patio. Or enjoy the ‘McQueens Upstairs’ for a fine dining experience on the second level for a different menu offerings and jazz entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings. The patio upstairs is a smaller than the one on the main level but the view is just as beautiful. If you decide to sit indoors you can still enjoy the great view looking through the large windows or the simple contemporary décor inside.
Drinks were an order to start off the experience at McQueens Upstairs - martinis and cocktails! Most popular ones were the Canada's Top Model martini and the Georgia Peach Iced Tea. If mixed drinks are not your choice of poison, I am sure you will find something from the extensive wine or spirits menu.
For appetizers we shared the Tiger Prawns and PEI Mussels (sautéed in white wine, Italian parsley, lemon butter, brioche croutons) with fresh slices of bread to dip into the sauce, Salmon Trilogy (candied salmon, smoked salmon & gravlax salmon served in individual bowls), and raw oysters served over ice with a lemon sauce on the side.
For dinner, we had the Rack of Lamb (served with braised lamb shoulder “shepherd’s pie”, Chianti demi, sea asparagus, and beets with rosemary garnish), Grilled Wild B.C. Salmon
(with smoked salmon & Yukon gold potato, spring roll, mussels & clams, saffron beurre blanc), and Oven Roasted Duck Breast (served with rustic forest mushroom risotto, duck confit, fresh leek and thyme jus). The entrees were served in good portions.
To end the evening on a sweet note, consider ordering Warm Chocolate Lava Cake with molten ganache center served with seasonal berries, the French vanilla Creme Brulee or their homemade cheesecake served with berry coulis.
Make it a date night out of great food, service and view of False Creek especially with the sun setting in the evening. Then perhaps enjoy a walk along the seawall for a an evening stroll.
Things to note:
- If you want a more intimate setting especially if you are making an impression, consider dining upstairs.
- The patio on the second level is smaller fitting just one row of tables so this area is quieter and more romantic. Rather than have tables around you where it can be a challenge to hear conversations.
- ‘No Smoking’ policy is in effect on the patios.
- If you are taking the aqua bus over, but sure to check out the site http://www.theaquabus.com
for scheduling. The last aqua bus leaves early in the evening so be sure to plan ahead or take a cab home instead.
- For our experience the service was very attentive and friendly. Coming out during the weekend can be busy so the service can be on the slow side.
- If you are dining at the restaurant before a show, they will provide a shuttle bus to your entertainment destination. Be sure to check their online calendar
