Fish on Rice is the perfect place for those who love food and lots of it. Known for their Japanese cuisine, this is one of the places to come and get your fill on this popular West Coast favorite. Be sure to bring an appetite to take advantage of the all your can eat buffet available for lunch and dinner. A la carte is also served for those who would like a different dining experience.
The restaurants can get busy especially around the general meal times so be sure to dine early or late to avoid line-ups. Otherwise consider eating at the bar where you can be entertained and mesmerized by the sushi chefs creating their edible art. This can be a great conversation starter if you happen to have nothing to talk about. Or if you are in a larger group, request to sit in the tatami room.
The portions are tapas size. You can order as much and as many portions as you want. These plates are served to your table after you fill out your order. Be mindful not to let your eyes be bigger than your stomach which is very easy to do. But, you can always order more on your next round.
The popular dishes to try are the Beef Tataki (thinly sliced beef cooked rare and served in a light sauce), scallop rolls/cones, Unagi cones (Japanese freshwater eel), Prawn tempura, Sashimi (selection of sliced raw fish), and of course their bottomless fountain pop. Otherwise expect to see the popular appetizers, sashimi, sushi rolls, tempura, and robata.
So if you love food and can’t get enough of the Japanese cuisine, consider coming out to Fish on Rice for your fill. In this place, you can’t run out of it.
Things to note:
- Order plenty of food ahead of time if the restaurant is busy. Sometimes it can take some time for the dishes to come to your table. Other times the cooks and chefs are quick that the server can bring the food almost all at once.
- Be aware that there is a restriction for offering buffet and a la carte at the same table. Be sure to confirm with your server if you happen to be with a group with some individuals who want the buffet special and others who may want a la carte.
- If you are looking for high quality food, this may not be the place for you. The food is good for a buffet environment.
- Dinner buffet offers a larger selection of choices than lunch hence the price difference. But if you want the basic offerings without paying the extra costs then lunch would be a better value for you. see the menu below and decide for yourself.
- The service quality isn’t up to par since the servers are running around serving trays of food to the other tables especially on a busy night. But we have called the host over for some assistance, since we were sitting not far from him and we were served immediately.
