Come and dine at the Sockeye City Grill in Steveston
, Richmond for one of the best places for fresh seafood and west coast cuisine. This place hits the spot especially during the spring and summer where it is bustling with locals and tourists around the marinas, shops and markets. Think Granville Island but located on the dock in Richmond. You and your sweetie can enjoy a scrumptious meal and the view of the water while watching the boats sail by. Sit anywhere inside the restaurant and enjoy the view through the large window. Or outside in the fresh air on the patio underneath the sun or the moon and stars at night. For a casual dining experience, you will find a dish to your liking.
We dined at the Sockeye City Grill restaurant as a group for lunch and found it nice place to get away for the afternoon. This restaurant serves everything from appetizers to pastas to burgers to fish and chips to seafood and steaks.
We started off with the West Coast Crab Cake (Pan fried crab cake with a charred tomato aioli and mixed greens topped with blueberry vinaigrette) and the Warm Calamari and Prawn Salad (Black tiger prawns, tender calamari, avocado, cilantro, mixed greens, tomatoes, Ahaheim chillies topped with a citrus sauce). A few people ordered the popular Fish and Chips (Coated with homemade beer batter, served with fries, tartar and coleslaw). For this one, I suggest bringing a large appetite if you order the 2 pieces option. Then the Seafood Tagliatelli (Shellfish, scallops, shrimp, herb cream or tomato sauce, parmesan cheese and garlic toast), Salmon burger (Grilled wild B.C. salmon finished with a honey mustard glaze) and the Oyster burger (Pan fried golden brown with citrus aioli). To end the meal, rich cheesecake topped with strawberries and really creamy crème caramel. Both were must haves here at the Sockeye City Grill.
If you are not sure what to order, be sure to check out their daily specials for unique offerings like their popular West Coast Fisherman’s Pot (West Coast crab, Salt Spring Island mussels, local clams, Queen Charlotte Bay scallops, jumbo prawns, wild B.C. salmon and Pacific halibut, garden vegetables, sweet tomato-fennel broth, and garlic toast).
Dine here and enjoy the romantic view of the lights reflecting off the waters. This is a perfect setting to go for an evening/midnight romantic stroll along the waters. Or come for a quick bite for brunch before playing tourist and shopping for unique items or fish sold fresh from the boats.
Things to note:
- Parking generally can be difficult during the summer months due to the popularity. There is parking on the side of the restaurant especially if you need a handicap spot.
- Service can be a hit and miss as we discovered in our last visit.
